Admissions

Applications for the Master's of Accountancy are submitted through the University of Tennessee's Graduate School. However, Haslam has application requirements specific to the MAcc.

Requirements

The admission decision is based on all factors that make up the total application, with consideration given to factors such as:

  1. Academic record
  2. Scores on the GMAT (unless waived), and TOEFL/IELTS for non-native English speakers
  3. Internships and/or work experience
  4. Recommendations

Prerequisite Coursework: Students with an accounting degree from an accredited baccalaureate degree program normally meet the prerequisiste requirements. Students with outstanding undergraduate records in other areas may qualify by completing prerequisite course work in accounting, information management and business. All prerequisites must be completed prior to the start of the MAcc program.

GMAT/GRE: Haslam undergraduate accounting majors are exempt from the GMAT requirement. This waiver also applies to students who take the prescribed accounting prerequisites above the principle level at Haslam.

English Language Proficiency: For applicants whose native language is not English, the MAcc requires submission of a TOEFL or IELTS score.

Tuition & Financial Aid

U.S. News & World Report recently ranked the University of Tennessee among the top 10 best buys in higher education. Forbes also ranked Knoxville as having the second lowest cost of living of all U.S. cities. An up-to-date schedule of tuition and fees for in- and out-of-state students can be found on UT’s Graduate School website.

Tuition and fees listed on the graduate school’s website do not include room, board, books and supplies or other living expenses. Estimates for other costs include:

  • MAcc Program Fee: $4,500 total (payable $1,800 in fall/spring, $900 summer)
  • Becker CPA Exam Prep Fee: $3,000
  • School Supplies: $600 total
  • Computer: $1,500-2,000 total
  • Recommended parking pass: $182 per year
  • Rent: $400-$900 per month
  • Health Insurance: $2,222 total

Students will be expected to have a laptop computer for use in the program. Additional details concerning the hardware and software configurations required are posted on the departmental website. (We need to include this here. It’s not on the DEPT anyway.)

Merit Aid
The Department of Accounting and Information Management awards scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and professional promise. Additional assistantships and fellowships offered through the university have varying eligibility requirements. No additional paperwork is required for these assistantships, fellowships or departmental scholarships, simply check the appropriate boxes on your admissions application.

Students also should apply for scholarships provided by the Tennessee Society of CPAs.

Financial Aid

Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by February 15.

Deadlines

Applications are accepted for fall semester only. The application deadline for international students and the priority deadline to be considered for graduate assistantships, fellowships and scholarships is February 1. All applications must be received before March 1.
