Jan R. Williams is Professor Emeritus in the department, and Dean Emeritus of the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Prior to his retirement in 2013, he served on our faculty since 1977. He received a B.S. degree from George Peabody College, an MBA from Baylor University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas. He previously served on the faculties at the University of Georgia and Texas Tech University. He is the former head of UT's Department of Accounting and Information Management. He is a CPA in Tennessee and Arkansas. He is the co-author of three books and has published over 70 articles and other publications on issues of corporate financial reporting and accounting education.
Dr. Williams has been extensively involved in professional accounting and business organizations. He served as president of the American Accounting Association in 1999-2000 and also has been actively involved in Beta Alpha Psi, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and the American Institute of CPAs. He currently serves as the immediate past chair of the board of directors of the Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB) International, the accrediting organization for business schools and accounting programs. Additionally, Dr. Williams represented the AACSB on the first phase of the work of the Pathways Commission, which resulted in the report issued in July 2012.
